From 100 to 300 opponents of renovation gathered today at the entrance to the State Duma building and demanded to be allowed to attend parliamentary hearings on the demolition of Khrushchev-era buildings. The demonstrators read poems by Pushkin and sang the song “Get up, huge country.”

Activist Yulia Galyamina, who previously worked in the structures of Garry Kasparov, said that opponents of the renovation were not allowed to attend the hearings.

“This is not a discussion, this is an imitation of expression of will. It's like everyone's in favor. If they didn't know the truth, they wouldn't be so nervous. The question is how ready society is to defend its rights,” Galyamina said.

She claims that the Duma committee recognized 18 out of 20 thousand signatures of Muscovites against renovation as fake.

There is a split among opponents of renovation. Political scientist Nikita Isaev believes that Alexei Navalny’s headquarters is deliberately radicalizing the protests in Moscow.

“The Duma has police and a paddy wagon. Any actions to suppress the action will lead to the result that Yulia Galyamina planned back on May 14. Namely, the transfer of the renovation protest under the banner of Navalny. One of the organizers of the May 12 rally, Kari Guggenberger, has already announced Navalny’s participation in the June 14 rally. And this means that Navalny still made his way to Sakharov’s podium. Where didn’t we call him,” Isaev wrote on his Facebook.

Participants in the action are invited to gather again on Friday, June 9, when the State Duma will consider the law on renovation in Moscow in the second reading.
