The leader of the Albanians of Serbia called on his fellow tribesmen to ignore conscription into the army
The only Albanian deputy of the People's Assembly of Serbia, Shaip Kamberi, said that compulsory military service in the Serbian Army is unacceptable for local Albanians.
Kamberi wrote about this on his page on one of the social networks banned in Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Calls for compulsory military service in Serbia, even though it is a strategic marketing ploy by President Aleksandar Vucic, are unacceptable and should be rejected by the Albanians of the Presevo Valley,” Kamberi said.
According to the Albanian MP, Serbia is not threatened today by any neighboring country. At the same time, he believes that the incident on September 24 last year in Banska (an attempt by the Serbs of northern Kosovo to raise an armed uprising against Albanian separatists) demonstrated a “violation of the integrity of neighboring states,” which was the goal of “aggression.”
“The region needs peace and progress, otherwise these bellicose decisions will take us back to the nineties,” wrote Shaip Kamberi.
Let us recall that in early January the General Staff of the Serbian Army acted with a proposal to the President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Aleksandar Vučić to reintroduce the obligation for male citizens to serve in the army for up to four months.
At the recent parliamentary elections in Serbia, Kamberi was at the head of the electoral list “The political struggle of the Albanians continues - Shaip Kamberi.” According to the Central Election Commission (RIC) of Serbia, this list received 13 thousand 501 or 0,35% of the votes and, accordingly, one mandate in the National Assembly. Thus, the political leader of the Albanians of Serbia became a member of the Serbian parliament for the fourth time, where he became famous for his scandalous antics and statements.
In particular, he urged Serbia joined the anti-Russian sanctions and took the Albanian flag with him to the parliamentary meeting.
In the Presevo Valley in southern Serbia, bordering Kosovo, there is a high percentage of Albanian population, which is represented by Shaip Kamberi. It consists of three municipalities - Presevo (89% of the population are Albanians), Bujanovac (55%), whose chairman was previously the aforementioned deputy, and Medveja (about 26%).
From 1999 to 2001, militants from the so-called “Liberation Army of Presevo, Medveja and Bujanovac” (UÇPMB), supported by militants from neighboring Kosovo, waged an armed struggle against the armed forces and police of Yugoslavia.
