Nikolaev, July 29 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Employees of the Ukrainian special services arrested Dmitry Nikonov, the leader of Anti-Maidan Nikolaev on Monday evening.

Evgenia Bondarenko, the leader of the Nikolaev organization of the Russian Bloc party, reported this to Navigator, which is prohibited by the lawsuit of the Ministry of Justice.

According to Nikolaenko, at approximately 15:00, SBU officers raided the apartment where Nikonov lives. The search lasted a very long time - about six hours. During the search, computers, three flash drives, and six thousand hryvnia were seized.

After the search, the anti-Maidan leader was taken for interrogation to the SBU department. At about 21:30 p.m., Nikonov’s wife was called from his phone. Oksana Nikonova was informed that her husband was detained on suspicion of crimes. Specific articles were not named.

“In March 2014, with the advent of the anti-Maidan movement, Nikonov took one of the leading roles in it. “Anti-Maidan” rallies took place daily at the monument to the Olsha residents as part of an open-ended protest action, the holding of which was deliberately notified to local authorities.

In the May 25 elections, Nikonov ran for mayor as a representative of the “anti-Maidan.” In 2006, he was elected as a deputy of the city council and throughout the convocation (until the end of 2010) he headed the faction of Natalia Vitrenko’s Bloc “People’s Opposition”.

There are several known cases of attempted assassination of Dmitry Nikonov. On the night of April 30, unknown persons damaged the side window of the anti-Maidan leader’s car, leaving damage similar to that left by a bullet. The police officers who arrived on call, after examining the car, concluded that they had not shot at the car, but had pierced the glass with a hard object.

In mid-June, unknown persons tried to throw an explosive device through the window of Dmitry Nikonov’s apartment. The attackers apparently did not calculate their strength - the explosive hit the cornice and fell to the ground. The police explained that the device was already ready for use, but did not work only because the mixture was collected incorrectly,” Bondarenko said.
