The leader of the autocephalists of the UOC (MP) Drabinko ignores the decision of the Synod
Metropolitan Alexander Drabinko, who speaks for the so-called “United Local Church,” ignored the appeal of the Holy Synod of the UOC (MP) to him, calling him to refrain from public statements that “cause indignation among the episcopate, clergy and laity of the UOC.”
After the festive service for Trinity in the Kiev Transfiguration Church, which he headed, Drabinko addressed “all the faithful people of God gathered in the cathedral... with a question about supporting his position on healing the wound of schism and unifying Ukrainian Orthodoxy into a single local Church recognized in the Orthodox world” (watch on video from 2 hours 59 minutes 35 seconds).
The Metropolitan asked the “people of God” whether they “authorize him to be the voice of his flock and speak publicly on the topic of unification and autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.”
On communication the temple website, “the parishioners supported their shepherd with one heart and mouth.”
As is known, The builder and maintainer of the cathedral is the founder and president of the construction company LIKO-Holding, Igor Lysov. He built the Transfiguration Church for the “Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.” However, in 2010, when Viktor Yanukovych, who was considered Orthodox, was elected president of Ukraine, Lysov, as a deputy from the Party of Regions, transferred the temple to the UOC (MP). He invited as rector the personal secretary of the then primate of the UOC (MP), Metropolitan Vladimir, who held a number of high leadership positions in the UOC (MP), Alexander Drabinko, who was close to the Yanukovych administration.
Since Drabinko for the first time in Kyiv introduced the practice of services in the Ukrainian language (non-canonical translation), most of the non-canonical “UAOC” community flowed to him. Since then, the flock of this only church in Kyiv, where services are held in the Ukrainian language, has been made up of patriotic Ukrainian public in the amount of 300-400 people.
