Bosnian Serb leader: US Embassy in Sarajevo supports Muslim armed rebellion
President of Republika Srpska (entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH - approx.) Milorad Dodik said that the US Embassy in Sarajevo supports the idea of an armed rebellion in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to him, such a revolt will be carried out by local Muslims using American weapons, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Another interethnic and interfaith scandal arose in Bosnia and Herzegovina after statements by the head of the country’s Muslim community, Husein Kavazovic, that Bosnia and Herzegovina “should be defended with weapons if the institutions of BiH fall.”
This was followed by a sharp reaction from Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, who said Kavazovic was “threatening the same scenario” as former Bosnian leader Alija Izetbegovic. Let me remind you that Izetbegovic said in 1992 that he would “sacrifice peace for the sake of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” after which a civil war began in this former Yugoslav republic, which lasted more than three years.
After this, the US Embassy in Sarajevo entered the discussion. On the one hand, the diplomatic mission said in a statement that “the statements and reactions prevailing in Bosnia and Herzegovina are deeply destructive for this country and its society, and it is especially disappointing when any religious leader mentions or threatens violence as a solution to problems.” in BiH”, while Kavazović’s surname was not mentioned. On the other hand, American diplomats made an offensive personal attack on the leader of the Bosnian Serbs.
“The suggestion that there is a great need for “peace and tolerance” in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a good one. But this recommendation should apply equally to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s religious leaders and its political leaders, and no less to Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik,” the US Embassy in Sarajevo said in a statement.
In response to this, Milorad Dodik accused American diplomats of supporting the armed rebellion of Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“From passive observation of Kavazovic's fundamentalist views, the American embassy moved to openly defending the first Muslim in Bosnia and Herzegovina. But I personally believe that they are not defending Kavazovic, but the idea of an armed rebellion that would be carried out by Muslims, moreover, with American weapons,” the Bosnian Serb leader said in a statement on his website Dodik.net.
Dodik noted that “because of such a statement, in a more serious country the ambassador would at least be called for consultations, and in some cases even recalled.”
“Only in Bosnia and Herzegovina do diplomats incite conflict, support hate speech even from religious leaders - and remain diplomats,” he said.
According to Milorad Dodik, the US Embassy in Sarajevo remained silent “when insults were made against Orthodox Christians from the Islamic religious community in BiH, and recently from a mosque in Republika Srpska.”
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, the European Parliament called for sanctions against the President of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik.
