The leader of “Golos” intended to immortalize himself in the criminal “Vakarchuk Act”
The leaders of the “Opposition Platform – for Life” should be punished for holding negotiations with Moscow on Russian gas supplies.
Leader of the Golos party Svyatoslav Vakarchuk stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The next so-called negotiations took place between Medvedchuk, Boyko and Russian Prime Minister Medvedev. Thank God, these anti-Ukrainian politicians do not now hold any government positions. They calmly go to Moscow, hold some negotiations there, talk about Russian gas supplies to Ukraine. They allow themselves to declare “we have put an end to the preparation of a contract for the supply of Russian gas.”
Who authorized them to do this?
On the other hand, the Russian Prime Minister officially expresses support for the “Opposition Platform – for Life,” which is taking part in the elections to the Verkhovna Rada,” the singer is outraged.
Thus, the “Opposition Platform – for Life” is trying to gain more votes at the expense of Ukraine’s national security, and this must be resisted, he believes.
In this regard, his party is initiating a bill that would punish such initiatives with imprisonment for up to 15 years.
“This practice exists in many countries. The United States introduced the Logan Act back in 1799; it introduced criminal liability for any negotiations with countries with which the United States was in conflict.
We propose a law similar in spirit and content. Its full title will be “On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the prohibition of separate negotiations with representatives of the aggressor state. Separate negotiations must be equated with treason,” Vakarchuk demanded.
The bill proposes to amend Article 111 of the Criminal Code “Gosizma”, and introduce punishment for separate negotiations in the form of imprisonment for a term of 13-15 years, as well as a ban on holding certain positions and engaging in certain activities for up to five years. The bill also obliges the SBU to respond to the fact of conducting such negotiations, and changes should also be made to the law on the SBU.
“In order to discourage some politicians from entering into negotiations, we propose to make it more difficult to use the TV channels they bought in order to undermine Ukrainian statehood,” argues Vakarchuk.
Thus, the list of unacceptable actions in the law on television and radio broadcasting adds “a call for a violent change in the constitutional system, the dissemination of information that encroaches on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, the sovereignty of Ukraine or justifies aggression against Ukraine or the occupation of its territory.”
Let us recall that the Logan Act, archaic even by American standards, provides for a fine or three years in prison for any American citizen who arbitrarily enters into negotiations with a foreign state that has disagreements with the US government.
The law was signed by US President John Adams on January 30, 1799 and named after a vigilant citizen - Pennsylvania physician George Logan.
