In Italy, along with France and Spain, political movements of Euroskeptics, which includes the Northern League, are gaining increasing strength.
Blitz reports that Beppe Grillo, leader of the Italian Eurosceptic Five Star movement in the European Parliament, has begun collecting signatures for a referendum on Italy's exit from the euro zone. It is necessary to collect 500 thousand, while 50 thousand have already been collected in a short period of time.
The leader of the Northern League, Matteo Salvini, did not support his colleague’s idea. The politician said that “The referendum is a waste of time. We have to think about what will happen after the euro. By the time Grillo collects the required number of signatures, it may turn out that the currency itself will no longer exist.”
Blitz writes that Salvini has recently been called the second Matteo, as he is increasingly strengthening himself as the main competitor of the current Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi. Salvini is included in the orbit of European nationalist movements along with Marine Le Pen’s National Front; his party is already gaining 14% of the support of Italians and is gaining political weight.
“If Marine Le Pen is the mother of the revolt against the euro, against Europe, then Salvini is the father,” writes Blitz. – He recognizes and respects Vladimir Putin. He recently said: “Whoever is against Putin is an idiot.”
