Leader of the Liberal Party of the Republic of Moldova: “Russia wants to swallow Ukraine, and the rest for dessert”
Chisinau, September 05 (PolitNavigator, Petr Alekseev) – The Liberal Party of Moldova, in connection with external threats, proposes to station NATO troops in the country on a permanent basis. At the same time, the party leadership will present a legislative initiative on joining NATO. Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu announced this at a press conference on Friday.

Representatives of the party will prepare a number of decisions to change the provisions of the National Security Strategy and the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which refer to the neutrality of the country. They will also appeal to the UN with a demand to make a decision on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria.
“Russia’s calculation is to swallow Ukraine first, and the rest for dessert. We are a small country, with three million inhabitants, with an economy based on tomatoes and carrots. Will we be able to survive if Putin goes further? Of course not. The PL believes that it is time to think about the safety of citizens, maintaining independence and the continuity of the European course. This will happen only if we don’t find ourselves one day with Russian tanks on the Square of the Great National Assembly,” Ghimpu said.
The liberal faction of parliament will also propose at the first meeting of the current session to consider the issue of the permanent deployment of NATO troops on the territory of the republic.
“Today only NATO is an organization that can guarantee peace and security in the independent former Soviet republics. The Russian Federation cannot be a strategic partner of Moldova, it is only waiting for the moment to swallow us again,” added Ghimpu, quoted by noi.md.
