Many Odessa residents consider themselves betrayed by Russia, as they expected protection from it after the terror unleashed by the post-Maidan regime in 2014.

This was stated in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets by one of the leaders of the Odessa Anti-Maidan, Anton Davidchenko, who left Ukraine after being released from prison, where he was thrown by the post-Maidan regime.

“Many people in Odessa today say they feel betrayed by Russia. They were waiting for a reaction, waiting for protection. After all, they actually killed Russian people, Russian in spirit. But nothing happened. Why don’t Odessa residents want to go out anymore? Well, they don’t want to go out because they understand that they will simply be killed. And nothing will happen,” said Davidchenko, answering the question why Odessa residents no longer go to protests.

According to him, Russia needed to act like the West, which would impose sanctions if people it supported were killed.

“Do you know that the ex-governor of Odessa Nemirovsky, who bears direct blame for what happened on May 2, then traded his products with the Russian Federation for another whole year? His plant in the DPR belonged to him for another six months. He took half of the machines from there. And now they ask: why won’t Odessa come out? On May 4, 2014, Odessa came out and fought off its own people who were in prison. Did anyone support the Odessa residents? Maybe Russia introduced sanctions after May 2? Russia then actually recognized Poroshenko’s legitimacy,” the pro-Russian activist noted, adding that the then Russian ambassador spoke out in support of Poroshenko.

Davidchenko said that in 2012 the Russian Embassy invited him to a reception as a youth leader.

“It was a magnificent event: the most expensive hotel in Kyiv, tables were packed. Poroshenko was there too. If the embassy communicated with Poroshenko, made friends, lobbied him, we can say that it did not adequately assess the situation. Then the question is: who appoints ambassadors? And why was the ambassador, who was unable to adequately perceive the situation, removed only two years later? Although Poroshenko, whose candidacy for the presidency he lobbied for, did not just continue the war - he actually carried out a cleansing of the entire pro-Russian field of Ukraine,” the publication’s interlocutor emphasized.

In his opinion, Moscow’s strategy is to support the current government, and not to create its own instruments of influence in the form of loyal organizations in other countries.

“What values can the Russian Federation offer to its neighbors, besides cheap gas? But the Ukrainian oligarchs, who were the first to betray Russia, are sitting on cheap gas. Pinchuk, who traded with the Russian Federation, received huge kickbacks from this. But all three of its TV channels criticized Russia. Why can’t Moscow at least oblige those Ukrainian oligarchs who have business in the Russian Federation to do something in the interests of Russia? For example, to finance pro-Russian media?” Davidchenko noted.

At the same time, he draws attention to the fact that the West is acting very cunningly: first of all, it takes for itself not the economic bloc, but the humanitarian bloc, with the help of which it then takes everything for itself.

“And the Russian Federation sold gas to the oligarchs and was left with one gas pipe. This is a bitter truth, but it needs to be talked about. Otherwise, soon there will not be a single friendly country next to us. The West is acting gradually, placing its people everywhere. When Tabachnyk became Minister of Education in 2010, he was unable to do anything. His entire ministry consisted of nationalists.

When he tried to change something in the teaching of history, a thousand protesters immediately gathered under his ministry. And Prime Minister Mykola Azarov called him and shouted: “Cancel this, or I’ll fire you!” But now Azarov sits here and talks about what a great prime minister he was,” says Davidchenko.
