“For me and my comrades, this verdict did not come as a surprise. At the beginning of the trial, we challenged the judge and the state prosecutor. Today the prosecutor does not remember how he tried to assign me as a deputy to an entrepreneur working in the area entrusted to him, and received a refusal from me. As for the judge, his repeated challenges are not even due to the fact that among the former military judges of “independent” Ukraine they treat people like me with special “love”. From the first hearing, the court clearly took the side of the prosecution, depriving me of many rights, including the right to a preliminary hearing.

Even during the trial, information reached us that the sentence had already been written down, and the process itself was an empty formality. Therefore, our videos posted on social networks and YouTube are of particular importance. Thanks to them, you can see how criminal cases are fabricated in Sevastopol.

Before continuing, I would like to thank the media and journalists for their detailed coverage of this trial, and also draw attention to two very important points.

Today, information is being actively disseminated that the transfer of money is confirmed by audio and video recording. This spread of misinformation is deliberately done by those who fabricated a criminal case against me. Anyone has the opportunity to familiarize themselves with all the audio and video materials related to the case (on the pages of the Russian Bloc on social networks and on YouTube).

In these audio recordings you can hear about the work of the enterprise, conversations between employees and their acquaintances, and even about how I spent my weekends. But there is not a single word, absolutely nothing, that would indicate a crime. Moreover, no matter how funny it sounds, there are audio recordings confirming the falsification of the criminal case.

The second important point that uninformed people are now talking about concerns the fact that Basov was appointed to the position of director of the State Unitary Enterprise, in charge of the city’s cemeteries. The state unitary enterprise does not supervise anything and enjoys the same rights as entrepreneurs. Therefore, Basov could only supervise the commercial activities of the enterprise and the organization of the work of his employees. By definition, there can be nothing more, no control, administrative or other functions of power in relation to competitors. They would directly contradict the laws of the Russian Federation. Therefore, a verdict regarding a bribe from a competitor is already obviously unjust.

Now to the most important question: did Basov take bribes or not? Many people ask this question. And I answer unequivocally: no, and this is impossible. I'll explain in detail why.

To take a bribe, you need to know why, and to give it, you also need to know why. In my case, no one: neither the applicant nor the mediator has any idea why. They stated this directly in court. The very fact that the investigator during Rapoport’s interrogation, instead of asking a clear question: “What did he pay for?”, asks “what could he pay for,” indicates either immense stupidity or complete confidence in impunity.

Imagine how Rapoport fantasized, supporting his thoughts with the words “I guess.” Moreover, in court he came up with several more assumptions, including that he allegedly paid so that no attempt was made on him. This suggests not only that it is impossible to fulfill the fantasies and assumptions created by Rapoport’s imagination, but also that the investigator knew well that there were no demands, threats, or money from him and could not have been in principle.

The entire accusation is based solely on the testimony of one person. Why this happens is explained by those same audio recordings. A woman I know well settled with me for her personal obligations. Her personal obligations are confirmed by both witnesses and documents.

After that, I was found in a cafe and accused of bribery. And another thing is that I allegedly personally met and personally extorted a bribe from a person who claims that he only saw me on TV. That's it, no more and no less. My friend was asked to state that this was not a return of money, but a transfer from Rapoport. And in return, the law enforcement officers promised that everything would be fine with her (this is confirmed by audio materials). In the end, she really did well and was given a fine. And therefore the entire accusation is based solely on her words, since the other two witnesses do not know me personally, have not met me, and gave evidence only from her words. Moreover, in court, she said that she handed over the money to me silently, and that I had to guess that it was from Rapoport myself.

This is a “bribe”. If the police officers wish, a bribe-taker can be any person whom they want to put behind bars. Confidence in impunity makes it possible to fabricate criminal cases beyond the bounds of reason.

I am accused of inaction, which is within my authority. You will not find a word anywhere about what kind of “inaction” this is, and what’s more, it is within my authority, that is, in other words, it is not clear how I should have done nothing to please the entrepreneur. Do you feel the flight of thought and the scope of falsification? The judge’s assertion that my powers include restricting the access of individual entrepreneurs to the cemetery is patently illegal. Interfering with lawful business activity is a criminal offense. Therefore, the sentence, like a carbon copy, written off from the prosecution, is beyond common sense.

I don't believe in Sevastopol justice. Everything here is much worse than in Russia as a whole. I am far from the first person to be removed in this way. But I am one of the few who tried to make the process as open and transparent as possible. This partly explains such an impressive sentence, and such hysteria among some of the security forces. In Russia there are practically no acquittals, and not because there are no ordered cases in our country, but all investigators and prosecutors are real professionals. But because in the country justice still remains selective, in favor of those who either have big money or administrative influence.

Now the country's top leadership talks a lot about responsibility for fabricated cases by law enforcement officers. Looking at everything from the inside, I can say, not without regret, that a lot of time will pass from words to real deeds. It is also alarming that the directors of commercial government agencies, who earn money for the budget, will not be protected from the arbitrariness of those people in uniform who are actively involved in the redistribution of business.

Many people understand that if they are trying to destroy me, what can we say about people who have no public organization behind them, whose fate practically no one cares about except close friends and relatives.

The justice system is rotting and rotting rapidly. There is no real accountability for those who represent it and commit crimes within.

I directly declare that I will do everything possible to ensure that all the details of my criminal case become a guide for those who want to fight and defend their rights and the right to justice. I am grateful to people for their support and do not intend to stop. This is just the beginning,” writes Basov.
