“The dashing cavalry attack on the Lavra failed” - confession of the Herald
After failing to take the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra head-on, the Ukrainian authorities need to change their strategy, relieve civil tension and begin non-public pressure on the UOC with a gradual inclination to capitulate on their own terms.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reported this on Radio NV. Kyiv political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, serving the interests of the office of the President of Ukraine.
“What was the problem in the situation around the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra - there was an attempt at such a frontal and uncoordinated and unprepared attack, such a dashing cavalry attack. That is, take the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra right away, take it away from the UOC-MP, and everything will be fine. It is clear that not all is well!
That side was more prepared, they organized organized resistance, such a loud protest, and demonstrated that they would not leave just like that. This was predicted, I talked about it and many other people. But the government bodies were not ready for this,” the political scientist admitted.
According to him, the authorities need to carry out repression more sophisticatedly.
“Therefore, I think that now we just need to prepare, perhaps not a public, but a clear strategy for further actions. The state must resume control over the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. But to do so now to relieve the tension - informational, civil tension - around this “object”, to gradually restore historical and religious justice there, and in general to think over our strategy for interaction with the UOC-MP for the future. They need to be given clear conditions on how they should live further, what will happen next,” Fesenko ranted.
