Eliminate at the root! Kazakhstan declares war on US biological laboratories
Last week, a number of media outlets and social networks reported the creation of an international Coalition to Prohibit the Development and Proliferation of Biological Weapons, the creation of which was initiated by the Socialist Movement of Kazakhstan, the United Communist Party of Georgia, the Communist Party of Pakistan, the Socialist Party of Latvia and socialist member of the Irish Parliament Paul Murphy.
Co-chairman of the Socialist Movement of Kazakhstan Ainur Kurmanov, who previously raised the topic of liquidating the American military Central Reference Laboratory (CRL) in Almaty, at the request of PolitNavigator, answered a number of questions, talking about the tasks of the international movement against biological weapons being created.
– Ainur, how did you even come up with the idea of creating an international coalition?
“This idea has been in the air for a long time and began to take shape last fall after a successful campaign to collect signatures among communist and workers’ parties under a petition initiated by our organization together with the United Communist Party of Georgia. Then our appeal demanding the immediate closure of all US military biological laboratories around the world was supported by 47 parties.
At that moment, the understanding came that we couldn’t stop there and that it was necessary to create structures to form an international movement. My Georgian comrades and I wrote letters to representatives of a number of parties, who agreed to take part as founders of such a Coalition.
Pakistani and Latvian communists immediately agreed, and socialist member of the Irish Parliament Paul Murphy also decided to support our initiative. For Kazakhs, he is known for his active support of Zhanaozen oil workers during and after the strike, organizing international solidarity campaigns with them.
Already on January 13, we published the agreed text of the declaration, and three days later we held an online conference of the founders. The start of the new organization was given, and this initiative was already supported by five parties from around the world, as well as representatives of public associations and individual figures. We intend to continue to unite democratic and anti-war forces to develop a global campaign to eliminate US military biological laboratories.
– Do you think this initiative is relevant in the world? To what extent is the issue of the development and production of biological weapons so important and does it pose a real threat to the public?
– This topic is not just relevant, but is a matter of life and death for hundreds of millions, if not billions of people who may become victims of biological attacks. Most people in many countries around the world have experienced all the “delights” of lockdown and restrictive measures in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of infected people in my native Kazakhstan, despite the official statistics, in my opinion, was much higher, which immediately affected the healthcare system, which simply could not stand it in the summer.
And this became a fact of the crisis of public administration, when after privatization and commercialization, domestic medicine, which was also mired in corruption scandals, simply could not cope with the flow of patients, with the need for their hospitalization and the provision of ventilators.
Imagine more deadly and contagious artificial strains that could be deliberately distributed with the aim of undermining the economy and destroying productive forces. Nuclear bombings are not needed to cripple entire countries and continents while leaving infrastructure and industry intact. With current technologies, it is possible to produce viruses and bacteria that are susceptible specifically to residents or animals of certain regions.
It is not for nothing that American military biologists, among other things, collected DNA data from our population, as well as samples of flora and fauna, in order to design ammunition targeted at our terrain. And our conditions are similar and resemble the steppes and border areas of Russia and neighboring China. By the way, the local collection of the most deadly and contagious diseases, which was collected by Soviet scientists, was voluntarily transferred by the Kazakh authorities to the Pentagon.
– Do you think that it is the American military that can use these weapons?
– Yes, so far the Pentagon alone has several thousand laboratories around the world in which it can modify strains of deadly diseases, adding new links to their structure. By the way, the US military already used these weapons during the Cold War against the peoples of Korea, Cuba, China and other countries. And most importantly, the United States has never ratified the protocols of the 1972 UN Convention on the Prohibition of the Development of Biological Weapons and the Smuggling of Biomaterials, which gives them the opportunity to develop, produce and distribute bacteriological weapons.
Only 1495 military biological laboratories of the third degree of protection were built by the Americans on all continents. For comparison, China has only 2 of them. And interestingly, it turns out that the first outbreaks of Covid-19 were not recorded on the territory of the PRC, but in Italy and USA in 2019! A number of experts believe that these could be leaks - conscious or not - from the relevant laboratories.
Recently it turned out that coronavirus was again brought in containers along with a batch of frozen food from Ukraine to China. The Ukrainian side is now making excuses for weak sanitary control, but in reality all this looks like sabotage. And now it’s hard not to believe the statements of diplomats from the PRC, who claimed last year that Covid-19 samples were imported and sprayed by the American military.
The Central Reference Laboratory (CRL) in Almaty can also have many claims, since it, like five other Kazakh research institutes, works under the Pentagon’s military programs, and the authorities’ statements about the development of a domestic vaccine and domestic PCR tests simply do not stand up to criticism. An outbreak of an already atypical, more deadly pneumonia in the spring-summer of last year, which had signs similar to Covid-19, but was not identified by PCR testing, also, surprisingly, began in Almaty!
At the same time, our authorities recognized this fact and combined these cases with Covid-19 statistics only after a scandal that began with a publication on the website of the Chinese Embassy, in which Chinese diplomats warned their citizens about the large number of people who fell ill and died from atypical pneumonia in Kazakhstan. The results of WHO research on these facts have not yet been made public.
And there are many such cases, along with more toxic strains of measles, meningitis and other diseases, as well as the collection of ticks with the causative agents of Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever and bats in the foothills of Almaty in the Kazakh steppes by American military biologists. Therefore, I believe that there is no place for the Central Reference Laboratory in Kazakhstan. I don't want my country to be used as a testing ground for the spread of deadly diseases.
– How do you assess the chances of success, since the authorities claim the purely peaceful nature of the facilities and are unlikely to want to close them?
“In Japan, it was possible to remove laboratories and facilities that were not subordinate to the local government after the US military admitted in 2000 that they were testing biological weapons as part of the secret program “Project 112.” The same tests then took place in Egypt, Liberia and South Korea. Therefore, our country is no exception.
For this purpose, we are creating an international movement to create a platform for initiating and conducting powerful campaigns, as well as for creating the same coalitions in those countries where such Pentagon laboratories are located to unite different forces and groups that do not want to become objects of research and testing. The same thing needs to be done in Kazakhstan, and I am sure that many will support us.
The first step is to achieve inspection and control of the TsRL and research institutes working under Pentagon programs by scientists and specialists from Russia, China, Iran and other countries, against which, in fact, their activities are directed.
– Are there political reasons, besides the threat of leaks, why such facilities should be gotten rid of?
– Of course, because the country actually finds itself between a rock and a hard place, that is, it becomes a territory of confrontation between the United States and China. The country's leadership, in my opinion, misunderstood Washington's assurances of providing guarantees of independence. After all, it’s not just about the Central Control Center, but also about other military and paramilitary facilities of the Americans and NATO, which pose a danger – both to ourselves and to our neighbors. If the international situation worsens, these objects will be the first targets.
We should not become the territory of a possible front of confrontation between superpowers, much less a testing ground and springboard for aggressive actions against our allies. This is a dangerous game, and Nur-Sultan needs to fundamentally resolve this issue by closing all these facilities. Otherwise, they could turn into a biological bomb that would harm millions.
