This was reported by the press service of the Yeltsin Center, in front of which the monument is located.

“The man, who was in close proximity to the monument, set fire to the contents of the package that was in his hands. The Yeltsin Center security promptly stopped the illegal actions and handed the arsonist over to the police. As a result of the incident, the monument was not damaged,” the statement says.

The man who tried to set fire to the monument turned out to be an unemployed newcomer, previously convicted under Article 282 of the Criminal Code, a case was opened on charges of vandalism, Valery Gorelykh, official representative of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region, told TASS.

The Other Russia party (the former NBP of Eduard Limonov) was one of the first to report the incident on its Facebook page, but did not take responsibility.

“On the anniversary of the centenary of the revolution in Yekaterinburg, unknown persons similar to the National Bolsheviks held an action near the walls of the Yeltsin Center. Unknown people poured gasoline on the monument to ex-President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin, located at the entrance to the center, and set it on fire. Let us remind you that on April 23, on the 10th anniversary of the death of Boris Yeltsin, activists of the “Other Russia” party hung a banner “Yeltsin, rot in hell!” on the building of the Yeltsin Center. The National Bolsheviks demanded the exhumation of Boris Yeltsin's body. There is no place in Russian soil for a monster who destroyed the country and robbed an entire generation of our citizens,” writes “The Other Russia.”

It should be noted that from the moment of its opening, the Yekaterinburg “Yeltsin Center” has become a center of attraction for protest emotions of Russians who negatively evaluate both the personality of Boris Yeltsin and his policies.
