This was reported by the Lithuanian publication Verslo žinios (“Business Knowledge”).
The owners (both actual and according to documents) of such cars, the publication writes, can be charged under three articles of the Lithuanian criminal code at once: embezzlement of enterprise funds, evasion of taxes and mass hiring of illegal workers (since according to documents the Ukrainian “owners” of Lithuanian cars are drivers of such companies).
It is reported that when leaving Ukraine for Europe, such a car may be confiscated. Representatives of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies will also be able to detain and confiscate these cars if they have data from Lithuania.
According to the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, as of November 1, 2017, there are more than 59 thousand vehicles with Lithuanian registration in Ukraine, the lion’s share of which – 44,6 thousand – were imported under the “temporary import” regime.
At the request of the State Fiscal Service, Lithuanian customs officers joined the investigation into the legality of the import and use of such cars in Ukraine.
Let us remind you that according to the State Statistics Service, the import of used cars to Ukraine has increased 6 times since the beginning of the year.
