Lithuanian diplomat: We consider the lifting of the blockade of Kaliningrad a victory for Moscow
Lithuania had to allow the transit of sanctioned goods through its territory to the Kaliningrad region because the European Commission insisted on this.
The ex-director of the Department of Law and International Agreements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania stated this on air on the Kyiv Internet channel “Apostrophe,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“New clarifications have arrived that slightly ease railway transportation. In no case does this apply to road traffic and road transport. I think that Russia has taken a pause now - it is assessing how much it has managed to change the general interpretation of the European Commission.
Our politicians regard these latest clarifications from the European Commission regarding transit very differently. Some say that this is a victory for Russia, some say that in the end some kind of clarity has come, whatever it may be,” the diplomat said.
“But, since this is a directive, and it must be directly implemented, then as a state that is aware of itself and is a legal state, we have no opportunity to reinterpret or find our own methods or ways to circumvent this directive, other than simply taking and executing .
What is connected with this Suwalki corridor? I think that everyone understands that this is very provocative rhetoric and I think that this is more a topic for internal consumption in the Russian Federation than anyone seriously expecting that Russia can take and make this Suwalki corridor by military force, because everything understand that this will be regarded as direct military aggression,” Jurgejavicius said.
