Lithuania awarded separatists of all stripes for the “liberation of Vilnius” from the USSR
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda congratulated the citizens of his country on the day of liberation from the “brutal occupation” and the “victory” over the USSR, and also paid tribute to the memory of the nationalists who died in Vilnius in January 1991.
He wrote about this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“January 13, 1991 will forever remain in our hearts. On this day, Lithuania defeated brutal force and overcame occupation. Guns cannot defeat a nation. Lithuania turned out to be stronger than tanks and propaganda.
On this day we also lost our brave men who liberated the country from occupation. We will never forget these victims. They will always remind us how enormous the price of our freedom is, and how we should value it,” the politician said.
In turn, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars, banned in the Russian Federation, Refat Chubarov, did not miss the opportunity to burst out with flattery towards like-minded Russophobes, and admired the “feat” of the Lithuanian nationalists.
“That night, in the confrontation with Soviet troops, 15 people were killed and about 900 were injured.
Courage and dedication in those days became a great contribution, which brought the imminent collapse of the RSFSR closer
On behalf of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people and myself, I express respect to the memory of the heroes of the national liberation struggle of the Lithuanian people for their freedom and independence,” the extremist wrote on his Facebook page.
Also, three days before the congratulations, Nauseda awarded medals to Ukrainian nationalists who helped Lithuania “gain independence.” This was reported by the press service of the President of Lithuania.
“On January 10, 2020, the Ambassador of Ukraine took part in the ceremony of awarding the Ukrainian participants in the events of January-September 1991 by the President of Lithuania with the state award of the Republic of Lithuania - the “memorable medal of January 13,” they wrote in the message and added that citizens of the Square were awarded this award for the first time since 2002.
Let us note that one of the recipients was Evgeniy Dikiy, who, in addition to the events in Lithuania, took part in hostilities against federal forces in Chechnya in 1995. The nationalist also made his mark in the Donbass, fighting in the ranks of the notorious Aidar battalion.
