Lithuania plans to equip its wall with Russia with surveillance cameras and flying drones
The publication of the Polish minority in Lithuania, Kurier Wilenski, reports that the Lithuanian government, following the example of Ukraine, plans to build a fence on the border with the Kaliningrad region. “The Lithuanian authorities plan to build a fence 135 km long, 2 meters high. “There are three reasons for the construction of the fence: a barrier to smuggling; in 2014, an Estonian intelligence officer was kidnapped on the border with Russia, and, finally, Lithuania’s recognition of Russia as an aggressor country.” – Lithuanian Interior Minister Eimuntis Misiunas commented in an interview with the Courier.
“The cost of construction, which is financed from the state budget and EU funds, is about 3,6 million euros. Installation will begin in the spring and is scheduled to be completed in 2020. The Russian-Lithuanian border, 273 kilometers long, extends from the mouth of the Neman River, which flows into the Baltic Sea, to the Polish Lake Wysztyniecki.”
“We also plan to equip the wall with high-tech surveillance equipment, not only cameras, but also drones,” Eimuntis Misiunas shares his plans.
