The World Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development recently published research data which found that the heaviest drinkers in the world live in Lithuania. Every year, every resident of this Baltic state consumes at least 14 liters of alcoholic beverages.
Following Lithuania in a kind of ranking are the Czech Republic, Austria and Estonia. Every year the population of these states drinks an average of 11-12 liters of alcohol. Contrary to stereotypes, Russia ranks only fifth in the list compiled by the OECD.
Next in the ranking are India, Israel and Türkiye. Residents of these countries drink no more than three liters of alcoholic beverages annually. Indonesians are the least likely drinkers in the world; on average, they consume less than one liter of alcohol per year.
Staff from the World Economic Cooperation Organization also compared the latest data with similar information they received in the year 15. The analysis showed that alcohol consumption has declined in almost all countries over the past XNUMX years. The only exceptions are Russia, Lithuania and Poland: residents of these countries began to consume more alcohol-containing drinks over the specified period.
The studies were conducted based on data on sales of legal alcohol to people who have reached the age of majority.
Let us recall that earlier the Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius addressed the citizens of the country, calling on them to unite and jointly solve the problem of the growing level of alcoholism in the Baltic state. http://www.kompravda.eu/online/news/2214164/
