IAEA staff, having inspected the nuclear power plant in 19 areas, saw in Ostrovets “five positive experiences that could be used by other countries.”

“Belarus is ready, and when it needs to connect the unit to the network and start loading fresh fuel – the country itself makes the decision. The first block exceeded my expectations. These are very good and reliable blocks. The staff is fully staffed and they already work there in 8 shifts.

I saw them when we were doing our rounds. These are young, energetic guys, many of them came from existing power units in Russia. It’s very good that every shift has experts and specialists who have extensive operating experience,” said Deputy Director General, Head of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy Mikhail Chudakov

The hot testing of BelNPP equipment will be completed by the end of March. Then all equipment will be audited, and the first unit will be launched.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW is being built according to the Russian generation 3+ design, which fully complies with international standards and safety recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

At the same time, Lithuania, the only one of the Baltic countries, is constantly stirring up a scandal, declaring the environmental danger posed by the Belarusian nuclear power plant. She announced a boycott of Belarusian electricity, but neither Latvia nor Estonia supported her.
