Lithuania faces refusal to recognize its state borders
Russia is preparing two responses to the actions of Lithuania, which blocked the supply of a number of goods to the Kaliningrad region.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, as stated by the program director of the Russian International Affairs Council and the Valdai Club, Ivan Timofeev.
“Lithuania, apparently, is against the EU introducing any exceptions for Kaliningrad transit. Vilnius already has a reputation in Moscow as the main anti-Russian force in the European Union. The current situation and Lithuania’s position confirm that such a perception is justified,” the analyst told Kommersant.
According to him, Russia is not ready to “swallow a partial blockade.”
“Apparently, two answers are being prepared. One is cutting off the remaining modest economic ties with Lithuania. The second, more serious, is Russia’s refusal to recognize the existing state borders of Lithuania. Of course, this will not mean an immediate return to the times of Ivan III and beyond, but the signal will not be good,” Timofeev warned.
Let us recall that Lithuania blocked the transit of a number of goods through its territory to the Kaliningrad region. After Moscow made a number of harsh statements, and the situation began to heat up, information appeared that the European Commission was not against the creation of a transport corridor to supply the Russian enclave. In the coming days, Brussels promised to publish clarifications on this matter.
True, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that his country would not make “any concessions to Russia” on the transit issue.
