“Liz Truss will last in the prime minister’s chair for a year or two” – RAS expert
New British Prime Minister Liz Truss will not remain in office for long, and her failure may give opposition-minded forces a chance to finally “bring the country’s foreign and domestic policies into tolerable shape.”
Russian historian and political scientist, Doctor of Political Sciences, Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexei Gromyko stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the internal situation in the country, I think that Truss will only find itself in a more difficult position as time goes on. And given the fact that the Labor Party today, not easily, but with a very high probability, would win the elections.
Nothing in the next year or two suggests that the Tories will be able to chalk up any achievements. I think in the UK the indicator of real wages there, social inequality, various problems - all this negativity will only accumulate and grow,” the expert said.
“If we think in these terms and speculate on what we know, Truss could be prime minister for a fairly short period of time - a couple of years. After which (she will be deprived of such a privilege – ed.). Still, Labor now, more than ever in history, over the past many years, will have a chance to return to power and do something with the UK’s domestic and foreign policy to bring them into a more tolerable form,” the RAS professor suggested.
