LPR and DPR demand special status from Kyiv - political divorce under economic union

Official representatives of the LPR and DPR in the Minsk negotiation process, Vladislav Deinego and Denis Pushilin, released a joint statement in which they called on Ukraine to implement the Law “On a special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.” This is associated with Moscow’s course towards the economic reintegration of Donbass into Ukraine while maintaining its political independence.

According to Ukrainian law, in those areas of Donbass that are not controlled by Kiev, local government elections were to take place on December 7. Now, during negotiations, the DPR and LPR demand that Kyiv restore economic ties with the region. Kyiv insists that Ukraine’s jurisdiction over Donbass must first be restored, the newspaper recalls.
