LPR rejected the idea of 20 thousand “peacekeepers” led by the Swedes
Ukraine, under the guise of a UN peacekeeping mission, wants to carry out a “cleansing” of the population of Donbass, disloyal to the Kyiv nationalist regime. This is how he responded to the words of ex-NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who proposed a plan to introduce a 20-strong peacekeeping contingent, which would include military personnel from countries that are not NATO members - Sweden, Brazil, as well as Belarus, which is trusted by Russia. Sweden should lead the UN mission.
“Who is Rasmussen today? This is one of Poroshenko’s advisers. The situation here is this: either this is a position that they are trying to impose to some extent on Poroshenko, or these are his own “wants”, which he is trying to voice through the former head of NATO,” Deinego said.
“However, there were no statements from NATO on this matter. Rasmussen’s position as a former NATO leader: to do without the participation of NATO countries in this event also looks somewhat strange. It turns out that in this way he expresses distrust of his colleagues,” added the LPR representative.
“They are offering 20 thousand people, armed representatives of some UN mission. Let's start with the fact that this is not a peacekeeping mission. A peacekeeping mission is a body whose presence is initiated either by two parties to the conflict, who have decided that they cannot resolve the conflict on their own and turn to the United Nations to conduct a peacekeeping operation. Then the UN considers this possibility and decides on the possibility of sending a peacekeeping contingent,” explained Vladislav Deinego.
“Here we are dealing with Ukraine’s desire to clear the territory of Donbass either with the hands of these UN representatives, or with their hands to block our ability to resist, and carry out the clearing on our own. Actually, they are trying to play out the Yugoslav option,” summed up the representative of the LPR foreign policy department.
