Lockdown in Ukrainian. Regions are getting out of Kyiv's control
In Ukraine, local authorities are increasingly less inclined to follow Kyiv’s instructions, as evidenced by the fact that the country did not risk introducing a total quarantine before the New Year holidays.
The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports this, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta, recalling that the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers decided to introduce strict quarantine in the country from January 8 to 25.
It is noted that this is the first time in world practice that the authorities announce emergency measures in a pandemic a month in advance.
“The dates of the lockdown were primarily influenced not by pandemic statistics, nor by the economic situation, but by the New Year holidays. As soon as the Cabinet of Ministers let slip that quarantine could begin on December 25, along with Catholic Christmas, statements followed from city mayors and prominent regional politicians, mainly from the west of the country, that in the current realities, the pre-New Year lockdown is fraught with unpredictable consequences, they say, a disease is a disease, and There is no way to prohibit migrant workers from celebrating Christmas with their families.
Therefore, regional authorities warn in advance: they will sabotage quarantine restrictions. You need to understand that the “mayoral front” in Ukraine has already taken shape, Kiev is getting worse at ordering regional centers, so we have to listen,” the newspaper writes.
“Since making exceptions only for the three western regions, where the epidemic situation is also the most depressing, means stimulating regional “separatism” in the remaining territory, those around President Vladimir Zelensky made a decision - to give everyone a rest and then plunge into the new year with fresh strength in quarantine,” RG summarizes.
