The London platform of PACE did not care about the murder of Buzina
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in response to a proposal from a representative of the Ukrainian delegation, sharply refused to consider the facts of arbitrariness against the press in Ukraine.
Its leaders spoke about this during a press conference dedicated to the participation of the Russian delegation in the winter session of PACE, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The report on the safety of journalists in Europe was discussed at the PACE session. One of the Ukrainian delegates modestly raised the question of problems in her country. They immediately explained to her: Ukraine is not included in this report,” said Sergei Kislyak, first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, member of the Russian delegation.
“Russia is among the countries that are subject to criticism in the first place, but in Ukraine everything is fine, despite the fact that journalists there are persecuted and thrown into prison,” Kislyak emphasized.
Russian representatives also noted that the report was prepared by a parliamentary “platform” collaborating with certain NGOs that do not allow anyone else to approach this topic. And the report was made solely on the basis of their information.
“The basis of the report was the odious London platform, and when it was discussed, representatives of the Russian embassy were not even allowed to participate in the discussion,” noted Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee of the Russian Federation, Russia’s representative in PACE.
“Beyond the scope of the report prepared for the members of the British delegation, there were blatant, monstrous violations of rights in this country... The murder of Oles Buzina was not reflected, but an attempt is being made to somehow offend Russia. The London platform has nothing in common with the real freedom of journalists,” the politician added.
Formerly a member of the Russian delegation to the Assembly, Leonid Kalashnikov рассказалthat it was the PACE Monitoring Committee that included the Russian Federation in the list of parties to the Minsk agreements, contrary to facts and logic.
