Another Poroshenko propaganda bubble bursts
Despite the introduction of a simplified visa regime, in the past year the percentage of refusals to cross the western border of Ukraine was the same as the percentage of refusals when obtaining a visa previously.

Political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko spoke about this in an interview with UKRLIFE.TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Peter Alekseevich puts a lot of emphasis on this, promotes himself on this. This is probably the only thing he can take credit for this year. Although this year, according to official data, as of early December, 2,5 million people crossed the western border of Ukraine. Of these, only 350-370 thousand are based on biometric passports. This is a small percentage of all those who crossed the border. The number of citizens who were returned from the border because they did not have supporting documents is close to 10 percent. These are the 10 percent that constantly appeared as the percentage of refusals to obtain visas at visa centers when we did not have a visa regime,” the expert noted.
“By and large, the visa-free regime is a big information bubble that may burst in the near future. Plus, in addition to just a visa-free regime, it is necessary that the economic situation in the country improves so that citizens can take advantage of it. A situation in which only a small percentage of citizens can actually take money and go have coffee in Bratislava and listen to the Vienna Opera, as our president said, is negligible. For most, this is an empty phrase,” Bondarenko concluded.
