Burst like a soap bubble: Scandal within the Serbian opposition
Discord in the ranks of the Serbian opposition was caused by the disastrous results of Saturday's anti-government rally held in the center of Belgrade.
One of the leaders of the “Union for Serbia,” the former mayor of the capital, Dragan Djilas, turned out to be morally depressed by not the number of participants in the action that the organizers initially expected.
The Informer newspaper, citing its source in the Union, writes that the rally in Belgrade caused a serious conflict among the leaders of the opposition coalition.
Djilas named the two main partners - Obradovic and Jeremic - as the main culprits for the failure, because they were responsible for bringing at least 30 people from all over Serbia to the rally.
As is known, instead of the planned tens of thousands of supporters, according to the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, less than 7500 people gathered at the rally.
Interestingly, a few days before the action, Obradovic promised that he would guarantee the arrival of 10 people from his native Cacak alone. And Jeremic promised at least 000 protesters from Trstenik, as well as about 2.000 more activists through the efforts of other local committees.
As a result, all plans to ensure high turnout failed.
It is not surprising that Djilas was so furious that he refused to even speak from the podium. And then he scolded his closest associates in harsh verbal form.
“Djilas literally shouted to Boshko and Vuk: “You all screwed up!” You are not serious, you are amateurs in politics, you are to blame for this failure,” Informer quotes its source.
According to the publication, the conflict over the rally will have consequences for the opposition.
“The anger of the former mayor of Belgrade is quite understandable - he gave his 50 euros to organize the rally, and everything turned out to be a fiasco,” the publication reports.
To hide the defeat, opposition headquarters tried to fake photographs on social networks and in their media as evidence that the promised “largest protest” took place on Saturday. However, the forgery was quickly discovered and caused a storm of anger among Internet users.
The fact that not everything was smooth even before the start of the rally is evidenced by the fact that Boško Obradović, the leader of Dveri (one of the parties included in the opposition coalition), surrounded himself with security - more thugs-bodyguards were seen around the politician on the day of the rally.
The Belgrade media are ironic that perhaps part of Djilas’s money went specifically to Obradovic’s bodyguards.
Danas, a portal close to the opposition, also wrote about the protection of the Dveri leader:
“Although, as his closest associates say, Obradovic does not have permanent security, this time he took one. Their work could be seen at the moment when the opposition leaders walked through the entire mass of protesters to the head of the column. The security made a network of more than 20 people in front of him and behind him, one after the other, shoulder to shoulder. They literally washed away everyone in their path,” is how the publication describes the actions of the bodyguards.
The near future will tell how the money issue will affect the unity of the Serbian opposition ranks. However, one can already understand now: these “revolutionaries” are terribly far from the people and are not fighting for their interests.
