Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba lies in his article, published in the American edition of Foreign Affairs, which was a response to the publication of American journalists in the same media that Crimeans are happy with the reunification with the Russian Federation.

Political scientist Denis Denisov told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.

The material authored by Kuleba talks about “torture” and “illegal detentions” of pro-Ukrainian activists in Crimea, citing as an example director Oleg Sentsov, a participant in the exchange between Ukraine and Russia, convicted of preparing a terrorist attack.

“Speaking about dissatisfied Crimeans, and polls in Crimea, which demonstrate the loyal position of the vast majority of the population of Crimea to Russia, Kuleba cited as an example a certain O. Sentsov, who, according to the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, “appeared (in Russia) in court on trumped-up charges.” .

Apparently, Kuleba did not watch Sentsov’s press conference after his exchange, at which he admitted that he discussed the creation of subversive groups in Crimea,” Denisov notes.

The expert also recalled that the reports of international ombudsmen contain a lot of criticism of the Ukrainian law enforcement system, but Kuleba saw only “gross violations of human rights in Crimea.”

“It is not surprising that Kuleba, who apparently has never even seen the Reports on the human rights situation in Ukraine published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, reports that they contain information “about gross violations of rights, about illegal arrests and detention, disappearances, mistreatment of prisoners, torture and extrajudicial killings in Crimea.”

It should be pointed out to the Minister that approximately 80% of these documents are made up of accusations from Ukraine relating to “gross violations of human rights, illegal arrests and detention, disappearances, mistreatment of prisoners, torture and extrajudicial killings in Ukraine.”

Denisov also refutes Kuleba’s theses that Russia allegedly brought about three hundred thousand residents of the mainland of the Russian Federation to Crimea, which influenced the national composition in the republic.

“According to the Ukrainian official, Russia is pursuing a targeted policy aimed at changing the demographic situation in Crimea; according to Kuleba, “140-300 thousand Russian citizens have been resettled in Crimea” over the past six years.
We open the website of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, according to their data as of January 1, 2014, there were 1.967.200 people living in Crimea. We compare with the indicators of the Office of the Federal State Statistics Service for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as of December 1, 2019 – 1.911.818. It turns out minus 55 thousand people. The question is, where did Kuleba get the figures of 140-300 thousand who arrived?” Denisov sums up.
