“False promises to Ukrainians about joining the EU”: criticism from Juncker
Ukraine is too corrupt a country and does not deserve membership in the European Union.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview with the German publication Augsburger Allgemeine, ex-President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said.
“Anyone who has had anything to do with Ukraine knows that this is a country that is corrupt at all levels of society. Despite all efforts, it is not ready to join,” Juncker said.
He believes that Ukraine needs large-scale internal reforms
«False promises to Ukrainians about joining the EU would not benefit either the EU or Ukraine,” added the former head of the European Commission.
According to him, "You should not make false promises to people in Ukraine"who are suffering from the war.
“I am very angry at some voices in Europe who are telling Ukrainians that they can become members immediately,” Juncker fumed.
He is convinced that EU membership for applicant countries such as Ukraine and Moldova should be linked to “internal reforms” and have the support of a “qualified majority.”
«We have bad experiences with some so-called new members, for example when it comes to the rule of law. This cannot happen again,” the politician warned.
