Poroshenko will still need Lutsenko to put pressure on competitors
Yuriy Lutsenko is unlikely to resign from the post of Prosecutor General of Ukraine since President Petro Poroshenko needs him in this post to work with political opponents, which is especially important on the eve of the elections, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Lutsenko wants to score political points for his future post-Poroshenko career and wants to stand out from this group of security ministers and heads of other departments who have now turned into toxic figures. The law enforcement system is in a state of complete collapse. The incident with Handzyuk added toxicity to this entire camp, which is now in power, to those who came after the Maidan.
I think Lutsenko will not resign, they will not let him in. Poroshenko will stop this process, he needs Lutsenko now. Lutsenko even flew with him to Turkey, although he was not needed there. The Prosecutor General's Office is one of the two main bodies that are already working with political opponents of the current government, and this work will intensify. The Prosecutor General’s Office will work with “unnecessary” candidates in the presidential elections,” he said.
