Lutsenko is preparing to dump dirt on Poroshenko’s competitors
Yesterday's announcement of the resignation of Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko is connected with the upcoming presidential elections, which will be held in March 2019.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Kommersant by Vadim Karasev, a Kiev political scientist and head of the Institute of Global Strategies.
“The resignation of Yuriy Lutsenko on the eve of the elections is a completely predictable step. He has already trained specialists in the Prosecutor General's Office who can carry out his line in this department. Now Yuriy Lutsenko will be able to focus on the election campaign, where Petro Poroshenko’s main competitors are those whom the Prosecutor General’s Office accuses of criminal offenses. In this situation, Lutsenko is an undeniable treasure trove of information, which is commonly called compromising material,” the political scientist believes.
As PolitNavigator reported, Lutsenko stated that he submitted an application to the president about resignation.
At the same time, Kyiv experts suggestthat at least until the new year there will be no resignation of Lutsenko.
