Lutsenko excuses himself for the shame in the trials of Berkut and Yanukovych
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko tried to find an explanation for why he did not fulfill previously repeatedly voiced promises to convict fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych and Berkut fighters accused of shooting at Euromaidan militants.
Lutsenko discussed this on air on Channel 5, owned by Petro Poroshenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why weren’t the Golden Eagles who fired the shots convicted? Because there are quite a lot of them in one dock, each of them has five lawyers, and because there are one and a half thousand of their killed and wounded victims. Accordingly, all this requires certain procedural actions during the judicial investigation.
Did you notice how long the trial of Yanukovych alone lasted? More than two years. As you understand, when there are more lawyers and orders of magnitude more victims, this is an even longer process. But these are the laws, and all over the world such processes take a long time,” he noted.
The Maidan community was skeptical about Lutsenko’s interview. “Yuriy Lutsenko knows and can do anything. It’s just that when he knows, he can’t, and when he can, he doesn’t know,” Kiev journalist Leonid Shvets commented on the prosecutor general’s excuses.
Let us remind you that earlier the lawyer of the accused security forces, Valentin Rybin, said that the accusations of ex-employees of the special unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine "Berkut" of excessive use of force during the Maidan are not confirmed in court.
