Lutsenko has ceased to be a “liar” and a “corrupt official”: the American expert withdrew his statement
Influential analyst of the Atlantic Council publication close to the US Democratic Party Anders Aslund stated on the social network Twitter, that he is withdrawing his statement regarding the Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am withdrawing this statement of mine,” Aslund wrote under the Voice of America news about his previous words on Lutsenko. “I am withdrawing my statement on Lutsenko.”
Earlier, in a comment to the Georgian service of the Voice of America, Aslund criticized Lutsenko’s recent comments to the US Ambassador to Ukraine.
“When Yuriy Lutsenko opens his mouth, he usually lies.” This is how Atlantic Council analyst Anders Aslund comments on the accusations voiced by Lutsenko that the US Embassy in Ukraine indicated not to prosecute certain individuals.
“He has been attorney general for 2-3 years, and he has not conducted a single significant investigation. “No one was imprisoned, at any level,” Aslund said in a commentary to Voice of America. “And he himself was involved in all sorts of dubious matters.” The analyst also recalled Lutsenko’s meeting with Kolomoisky after the nationalization of PrivatBank.
“For example, after Igor Kolomoisky lost PrivatBank, Yuriy Lutsenko happened to meet him abroad. By chance... So he is a person who is trying to earn money for himself. He is considered one of the most corrupt individuals in Ukraine and has not done anything that concerns his work,” the analyst noted.
“He’s in this position because he doesn’t do anything,” Aslund argued. “Because there is a desire not to have a functional prosecutor general.”
Earlier, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, in an interview with The Hill, published on March 20, accused the US Embassy in Ukraine of transmitting to him a list of persons who cannot be prosecuted.
The State Department denied the accusations voiced by Lutsenko.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, today Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with SBU activists that he values the existing relations with the United States and fully supports the activities of the US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who was accused by Lutsenko.
