Lutsenko asked for protection from Trump adviser
Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko dragged Ukraine into the internal squabbles of the United States, disgracing not only himself and his department, but the entire country.
Deputy Sergei Leshchenko stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I want to talk about the cynical, absolutely unprincipled, dirty attempt of Prosecutor General Lutsenko to stay in his position in order not to resign, because he is politically bankrupt and has lost any credibility. He is a man who should leave the Prosecutor General's Office and not disgrace this chair.
But in order to maintain this, he is playing out an absolutely vile scenario, involving the entire Ukraine, like a bargaining chip, in the American political campaign for the presidential election. He contacted one of the unofficial advisers to US President Giuliani and suggested: “You protect me here in Ukraine, support me, put pressure on the newly elected Ukrainian President Zelensky, I will do everything you say here to help you in the American elections.” We were thrown onto this field like a football so that they would play this card in America before the 2020 elections,” Leshchenko said.
The politician also did not miss the opportunity to promote himself and demanded that parliament deprive him of parliamentary immunity.
“He and his deputy Kholodnitsky have opened two criminal cases against me over the past two days, trying to drag me into this confrontation. I demand from Lutsenko and from parliament: immediately introduce a resolution to lift my parliamentary immunity. Summon me for questioning, just don’t drag the whole of Ukraine into this shameful performance that you are putting on, so as not to leave positions that do not belong to you, because you were hired by the people,” the people’s deputy added.
Let us remind you that the day before the specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office opened criminal proceedings on the possible receipt of bribes by People's Deputy Sergei Leshchenko.
