“Twenty volumes of the case against citizen of the Russian Federation Bezler. On January 15 of this year, a message about suspicion of a citizen of the Russian Federation Bezler of committing a crime under Articles 146, 437, 438 was added to this proceeding. On the same day, a message about suspicion, along with summonses, was sent to Bezler by international courier service.

Therefore, today we can talk about our readiness, if the Rada makes an appropriate decision, to finish this case in a short time and submit the following facts for review and then to the court,” Lutsenko noted.

Then he read out a whole list, which, according to the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, was allegedly committed by Igor Bezler and his subordinates.

“The investigation established that in the city of Gorlovka the leader of an illegal armed group, citizen of the Russian Federation Bezler, organized real torture chambers. Military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, law enforcement officials and civilians captured by Bezler and the militants subordinate to him were subjected to severe torture, and some of them were killed.

The prisoners were kept in premises not intended for this purpose, received a limited amount of food and water, and were deprived of the opportunity to properly satisfy their physiological needs and receive medical care.

According to the testimonies of interviewed victims who were kept in the seized buildings of Gorlovka, they were eyewitnesses and themselves became objects of interrogations carried out personally by Bezler and on his orders, such methods of inhuman torture as shooting their legs with firearms, breaking bones with hammers, strangulation, scalping of skin from the head, castration, use of the electric chair, hot soldering irons and other things.

One of the eyewitnesses witnessed the execution of more than 30 prisoners by militants under the command of Bezler in the courtyard of the Gorlovka department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Militants of Chechen nationality subordinate to Bezler tortured prisoners every evening and shot every fifth one. Prisoners were forced to walk through a mined field under threat of execution, as a result of which dozens of people were killed by mines. They hung up prisoners and skinned them alive, forcing other prisoners to watch, then dismembered and packed the bodies of their tortured comrades in plastic bags,” the prosecutor general read.

He further explained why he needed a trial in absentia of one of the former commanders of the Donetsk militia.

“I am absolutely sure that this case should be brought to court as quickly as possible so that both Ukraine and the whole world know what the war is for and against whom. There are dozens of similar cases, and I now want to call the people’s deputies of Ukraine to account and ask them to make a decision that will allow legally, as is done in most civilized countries of the world, to provide the opportunity to establish in absentia responsibility for the terrible crimes on the Maidan, and during the course unleashed by Yanukovych and his surrounded by war against our country. As you know, Yanukovych has already been convicted,” Lutsenko said.

Let us recall that earlier Yuri Lutsenko has already called for the conviction in absentia of one of the commanders of the DPR militia, Igor Bezler..
