Lutsenko delivered an ultimatum to Poroshenko
The announcement of the resignation of Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko is, first of all, an ultimatum to the entourage of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and a game to raise the stakes.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, writes about this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, such a step has several goals and reasons. Firstly, Lutsenko has long threatened to leave (he recently said that after the presidential elections), but he wanted to do it beautifully and the “Gandzyuk case” creates such conditions. Secondly, this is also an extreme attempt to relieve pressure from the President’s entourage, which is trying to turn the Prosecutor General into a political killer. This has already led to a necklace of behind-the-scenes conflicts, which erupted either in Lutsenko’s statements about an alliance with Klitschko or in the GPU’s refusal to initiate a criminal case against Gritsenko (and Tymoshenko in the future). Lutsenko is an experienced politician and is trying to distance himself from Poroshenko’s team (as Lozhkin and others did earlier) in order to preserve political prospects for the next political cycle,” says Ruslan Bortnik.
.
According to the political scientist, Yuriy Lutsenko understands that it is extremely difficult to force his resignation through the Verkhovna Rada.
“There is no coalition, it is extremely difficult to agree on the candidacy of the new Prosecutor General, and his deputy is a representative of the Popular Front - which is unlikely to suit Bananova. Therefore, this resignation has every chance of not taking place, and Lutsenko is “breaking free” of the field of political maneuver,” the expert writes.
