Lutsenko expects to remain in office until the elections
The statement by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko about his intention to resign means nothing other than a desire to promote himself, since in any case he will remain in his post until the elections.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Lutsenko is a populist and a PR man, and now he is once again promoting himself. Shokin (Lutsenko’s predecessor in the position of Prosecutor General - Ed), after submitting a written resignation, worked as Prosecutor General for three months, if not more. And Lutsenko said that he intends to work as Prosecutor General until the inauguration of the new president. The date is May. That is, as long as the matter is the case, then the elections will be suitable, but in the rank of acting. the same powers, but less responsibility,” says Semchenko.
According to the political scientist, in Ukraine, officials who submitted their resignations worked even more than Shokin.
“An emigrant from Georgia, Kvitashvili, after submitting his application, worked as the Minister of Health for another year,” Semchenko recalled.
“Therefore, the current statement is simply populism, which will not be followed by any real action. Lutsenko can submit an application, but resignation will not follow soon. Perhaps if Poroshenko wins the election, Lutsenko will be offered some more interesting position. They have been talking about his prime ministerial ambitions for a long time, and it is quite possible that they will be realized. If, of course, Poroshenko remains president,” he concluded.
