As PolitNavigator reported, the military personnel were accused of desertion after they retreated through Russia, and for the third month they have been under house arrest at the Ural Barracks in Zaporozhye.
“Two weeks ago we once again made a visit to Zaporozhye, the heroes of the 51st brigade once the preventive measure expired, the prosecutor had to file a petition for its extension, and the court had to consider it. Together with local activists, we organized a peaceful rally near the military prosecutor's office in Zaporozhye. The doors were not opened for us, despite the presence of lawyers and the press. Only after calls to Kyiv did the doors of the prosecutor's office open (their lock was supposedly broken due to the wind). Communication with the prosecutor was, to put it mildly, not pleasant. He personally promised us that the guys would have a guilty verdict. We have seen such prosecutors, and we, in turn, also promised him several,” the activists said, as quoted by the publication. “The guys are heroes, not criminals. The case is actually fabricated, there are a lot of procedural shortcomings, the preventive measure is a personal obligation, but it turned into house arrest. It is extremely difficult to resolve the issue in Zaporozhye. The prosecutor + judges, who have very little trust, continued to detain the children hundreds of kilometers from home without any reason for this. We became aware of facts of shameful behavior of the prosecutor in front of relatives of the heroes of the 51st brigade. Answer: “Yes, it would be better if they died” to the question of relatives: “Or would it have been better for the guys to stay on that waste heap?” – is a violation of all ethical standards!
It is unacceptable that in the front-line zone, where our military go to escape captivity or from shelling with hail, the position of military prosecutor should be occupied by a person who mocks the heroes. We talked about this with the GPU. We need testimony from relatives who witnessed such things. Our task is to close the criminal proceedings against the heroes and bring the military prosecutor of Zaporozhye to justice,” says the appeal of the “Automaidanovites” Dmitry Karp and Ekaterina Kuvita.
