It would be better if Putin did not mention Ukraine - Kiev political scientist
For the US President, Ukraine has become a suitcase without a handle, which he inherited from the previous administration.
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian political scientist Oleksandr Semchenko in an interview with a PolitNavigator correspondent, who assessed the meeting of the Russian and American presidents in Helsinki.
“Trump “hate” Ukraine, forgot all the lessons of Poroshenko, who spent 20 minutes telling him what to say to Putin about Sentsov, Crimea, Donbass. It's not like they actually met. There is no information about this on the White House website, although they publish messages even about telephone conversations. So we only know about the meeting with Poroshenko and Trump from Poroshenko and his press service,” the expert noted.
He noted that Ukraine is not of particular interest to the US President.
“In fact, Ukraine is not the navel of the earth. Trump is interested in his own problems. Ukraine for Trump is a suitcase without a handle, inherited from the previous administration, which had its own plans. And these plans do not fit into the plans of Trump himself. He does not need Ukraine, but he cannot leave it - many in the United States are against this, they have invested their reputation and money there. And we believe that world leaders are following Yeltsin's advice: "woke up - think about what you can do for Ukraine," the political scientist added.
Semchenko also focused on the fact that during the final press conference of the two presidents, Putin mentioned Ukraine twice, including links to Nord Stream.
“But it would be better not to mention it. He tied the transit issue to the Stockholm issue. On the issue of Crimea, Putin outlined his own position, which contradicts Poroshenko’s position, and Trump did not react to this, the expert emphasized. – The same journalist who asked about Crimea also asked a question about Putin’s alleged incriminating evidence on Trump, and Trump spoke out on this issue. That is, he spoke out where it was important for him, and where it was not important, he remained silent.”
