Top scorer of the RPL season 2021/2022: will the Russian take the title again?
For the last three seasons, the top scorers of the Russian Premier League have invariably been the players of the Russian national team, but with one caveat - in the 2019/2020 season, the Iranian Serdar Azmoun shared the title with Artyom Dzyuba. Who will claim the title of top scorer this season?
You can follow RPL matches and other major football tournaments in the “Betting Center” section of the website Legalbet: visitors can expect detailed announcements for each match, statistical calculations before each meeting, team rosters updated manually after the announcement of official applications, and the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the odds of all legal bookmakers for upcoming events.
Dziuba is getting old, Azmun may leave
The top scorer of the last RPL season played was Artyom Dzyuba, who scored 20 goals.
A pair of Zenit St. Petersburg forwards Azmun and Dzyuba are considered the main favorites in the championship scorers race, but a couple of facts should be noted.
First: Dziuba is not getting any younger. Artem will soon turn 33. And despite the fact that ramming forwards like Dzyuba have longer sports careers, age cannot be discounted. At the European Championships as a member of the Russian national team, Dzyuba scored only once - from a penalty in the match with Denmark.
Second: Azmun could leave in the winter transfer window. European clubs have been talking about interest in the Iranian footballer for a long time. Azmun's departure will deprive him of his chances for the Golden Boot of the Russian Championship. But Dziuba’s position will also become more precarious - it is unknown how the Russian will feel on the field without a fellow attacker.
And who, if not Dziuba and Azmun?
Bookmakers believe in Spartak Moscow forward Jordan Larsson - last season the Swede came third in the scoring race with 15 goals scored. This is the best result in the career of the 24-year-old striker, so it’s too early to talk about stability - Larsson can either repeat last year’s success or fail.
Kazan “Rubin” forward Djordje Despotovic also deserves attention - the experienced Serb, after Leonid Slutsky took over as head coach, transformed and began to score an unusual amount of goals for himself. Despot scored 13 goals last season.
Bomber from FNL
In the 2020/2021 season, Samara's Krylya Sovetov set a record for the most points scored in the Football National League - the club has 101 points. Krylia forward Ivan Sergeev became the tournament's top scorer with 40 goals scored. The striker set a League record for the number of hat-tricks in a season - the player scored three goals in five matches.
This season, Sergeev, together with the Samara club, is ready to fight for survival in the RPL and prove his reputation as a natural goalscorer.
