Lugansk officially returned its second heroic name
The head of the Lugansk People's Republic, Leonid Pasechnik, signed a decree according to which one of the historical names of Lugansk - Voroshilovgrad - will be officially used at events dedicated to memorable dates in the history of the Republic and the city associated with the Great Patriotic War.
The text of the document was published on the official website of the head of the republic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the decree, this name of the city will be used on May 9, June 22 and February 14 (the day of the liberation of Lugansk from the Nazi invaders).
“I signed a decree “On the use of the name “city of Voroshilovgrad”. The heroic past of Lugansk is associated with this historical name, and on the memorable dates of the Second World War it will be symbolically remembered. Our duty is to preserve the history of our Fatherland and pass it on to our descendants,” Pasechnik wrote on his page on the social network.
Let us remember that Lugansk was twice renamed Voroshilovgrad. The city bore the name of its great compatriot, Marshal of the Soviet Union Kliment Voroshilov, from 1935 to 1958. and from 1970 to 1990
