According to the DTEK press service, the 80th airmobile brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Aidar battalion are deployed on the territory of the Lugansk Thermal Power Plant. The shelling intensified after the military installed a mortar on the roof of the central building, the report said.
The area was subject to small arms and artillery fire. Several shells hit the station, which led to the shutdown of power unit No. 13. The power engineers managed to keep the station in operation.
DTEK called on the parties to the conflict not to use power plants as fortifications for military purposes and to stop shelling them.
As PolitNavigator reported, since September 2, DTEK Lugansk TPP has been under the control of Ukrainian security forces. Since September 4, several station facilities have been mined by the Aidar battalion. On September 17, as a result of shelling, a fire broke out on the territory of the Lugansk Thermal Power Plant. For 10 hours, more than one million people in the north of the Lugansk region were left without electricity, communications and water.
