Lukashenko campaigned for the EAEU for China
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called on the presidents of other countries belonging to the Eurasian Economic Union to more actively interface the EAEU with the Chinese “One Belt, One Road” initiative.
He stated this on Friday at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I urge you to intensify work in this direction and transfer it to a practical level. We're moving too slow. Specific projects need to be identified. It seems that at the current stage in the dialogue with Chinese partners it is advisable to focus on the formation of digital transport corridors. We must also promote the export of our products to China. In relation to food, it is necessary to optimize veterinary, sanitary and phytosanitary control.
You know that the PRC has always shown and will continue to show interest in our union. But we also have great interest in this huge market. And I must say that, unlike other unions and countries, China is open to us. We feel this, being much further than, say, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan from China. It opens. Therefore, we need to become more involved with China, especially in the field of trade,” Lukashenko said.
Let us remember, as observers believe, after cooling off with the West due to non-recognition of the election results, Lukashenko pins his hopes on continuing the multi-vector policy with the help of China.
