Lukashenko seized the account of his main election rival
The current account containing the election fund of Belarusian presidential candidate Viktor Babariko was blocked on Wednesday.
This was reported by Babariko’s election website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“No documents were provided confirming the arrest or the existence of other grounds for restricting the disposal of election fund funds. Currently, there are funds from the election fund in the current account in the amount of more than one hundred thousand Belarusian rubles (about 3 million Russian rubles, - ed.). The ban on the disposal of these funds does not allow for the full exercise of voting rights,” the statement says.
Babariko’s headquarters intends to complain, but will not stop current activities. All collected signatures will be properly verified and submitted to the relevant election commissions.
Neither the Belarusian Central Election Commission nor the law enforcement agencies are commenting on the situation.
Babariko is considered the most promising competitor to the leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in the upcoming presidential elections.
