Lukashenko fearlessly went to surrender to students
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, following his Russian colleague, spoke with students. True, Putin did this on Tatyana’s day, and the Belarusian leader came to the country’s main university without reference to the date. But just like Putin, Lukashenko decided to answer “inconvenient questions.”
One student raised the issue of unjustified use of force by security forces against participants in the August protests and the prospect of an amnesty for those who were arrested then.
Lukashenko omitted the topic of violence, but promised to reinstate students in universities, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We identified a lot of organizers, a lot of regulators who were there, and they will respond. To the fullest extent of the law. Those who find themselves at the wrong time and in the wrong place, well, you know, this is such a common phrase. When they are detained: “I’m just taking a walk here from Serebryanka.” Or even cooler, I came from another city for a walk.
Therefore, I do not rule it out, I have the right according to the constitution to pardon this or that person, and if he is lost, if he made a mistake, then we will not only free him from any criminal liability, but also reinstate him in the university,” Lukashenko said.
He suggested that students create a commission that would recommend candidates for reinstatement.
“And you must decide, first of all, I will accept your offer. And regarding these complaints: we keep it under control, we have combined these complaints, they are under the control of certain groups of investigators and people, that is, they are not scattered throughout the country. And we are considering them, but there are several hundred of them. I am sure that by the summer we will deal with all these complaints,” Lukashenko promised.
