Lukashenko was the main target of Pompeo's tour
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo organized a tour of Russia's post-Soviet neighboring countries to test the possibility of influencing them and causing a quarrel with the Russian Federation. The main target was Belarus, which was in a dispute with Moscow over energy resources, which the Americans rushed to take advantage of.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kornilov, the United States is trying to act in a targeted manner through such “shuttle” diplomacy.
“Checks the readiness of the republics closest to Russia for cooperation with the United States and the possibility of separating these republics from Russia. First of all, of course, we are talking about Belarus. That is, there the Americans are groping for an opportunity to drive a wedge between Moscow and Minsk.
In essence, this is a new approach in American foreign policy. Although, timid attempts at this have been made before... They won’t talk about it directly, but, in fact, of course, they will be talking about tearing Belarus away from Russia,” Kornilov said.
Ранее PolitNavigator reported, that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s tour to Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Belarus indicates the Americans’ desire to further weaken Russia’s influence in the post-Soviet space and tear away even its formal allies from Moscow.
