Lukashenko is preparing a constitutional coup - adviser to Tikhanovskaya
The constitutional reform currently being carried out by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will not be accepted in Russia.
Franak Vyachorka, an adviser to the self-proclaimed “leader of the Belarusian nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, stated this on the Polish TV channel Belsat, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A constitutional coup is being prepared, not reform. They are going to hold the so-called All-Belarusian Congress, at which they will change the constitution, change roles and certain articles. I don’t know who they will call Lukashenko and what power the institution of the president and parliament will have, but all this will not be accepted by the Western public, Russia, or the Belarusian people,” Vyachorka said.
According to him, Russia’s rejection of Lukashenko’s reform is connected with the form of its adoption that the Belarusian president chose – through the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly.
“It is important for Russia that these reforms have at least some shade of legitimacy and legality. Simply gathering 2 thousand of your friends in one room and changing the constitution is too much even for Russia. They even faked a referendum to change the constitution and allow Putin to remain in power. Therefore, it is important for Russia that this be in the form of a referendum, and not a cabal of accomplices.
Perhaps Russia is setting some conditions under which it will accept this reform, but according to my information, it is important for it that it be legal. Because if this reform is not recognized in any country except Russia, Russia does not need it. It is important for them that the situation changes and Lukashenko leaves. So that some quasi-democratic changes take place,” Vyachorka said.
Yesterday, Alexander Lukashenko announced that the All-Belarusian People's Assembly will take place on February 11-12, 2021.
