Lukashenko does not even think about curtailing trade with Ukraine
The suspension of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Belarus did not in any way affect trade between the two countries; it continues as before.
Vladimir Volya, an international affairs expert at Ukrainian Analysis and Policy Management, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“Trade between Ukraine and Belarus is ongoing and will continue. I also don’t think that Europe will introduce any significant economic sanctions against Belarus. And the position of the Ukrainian leadership always depends on the position of the EU.
Therefore, I don’t think that the country’s leadership is even seriously ready to work out any sanctions that would limit trade relations with Belarus. Therefore, trains with petroleum products go from there to Ukraine, and trains with oil go in the opposite direction. Lithuania now takes a rather tough position in relations with Belarus, which is why Azerbaijani oil goes there through Ukraine.
Of course, Lukashenko is not thinking of curtailing trade with Ukraine. If Ukraine had introduced some kind of sanctions, then he might have done something,” concluded Vladimir Volya.
As the Security Service of Ukraine reported yesterday, in the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine, not far from the Belarusian border, a railway line was blown up along which a train of 64 cars with fuel and lubricants from Belarus was moving.
