Lukashenko wants to put two million Belarusians under arms
The number of territorial defense troops of Belarus should be 300 thousand people. Even more people should be able to wield small arms.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said this today, speaking with a message to the people and parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The main weapons are small arms, grenade launchers, machine guns, pistols, machine guns, we must have in abundance. One and a half to two million of our people should be able to use it. And then no one will take us in this wooded and swampy area,” Lukashenko said.
He believes that the national security system of Belarus needs to be brought to a qualitatively new level.
“Increase the equipment of military units with weapons and equipment, train military personnel in modern methods and methods of repelling threats, train our military personnel to master new types of weapons, develop territorial defense,” Lukashenko said.
He turned to the Belarusian people with the question of whether they were ready to pay for their own defense, and he answered it himself.
“Our army is compact, maneuverable, and combat-ready. We will strengthen its power. Rocket production, the creation of unmanned aircraft, small arms and ammunition, modern communications and automation equipment, military optics and other products of the Belarusian military industry have already been put into production. And we'll buy what's missing. Given current events, this is especially important. So you understand: this is not cheap,” Lukashenko said.
