“As for honey, it’s a relative novelty for me that they get pure honey in this zone. This is natural: the bee processes this nectar, resulting in pure honey. If we can get honey here, then we need to develop more honey. If it is possible to develop sawmilling, then more, because there are a lot of mature forests. The tree was 40 years old, 30 years have passed, it needs to be removed. It needs to be removed, perhaps in larger quantities. If horse breeding can be developed here, then let’s develop it,” Lukashenko said.

He instructed the Ministry of Emergency Situations to analyze the situation in the 30-kilometer zone - the areas most affected by radiation.

“I allowed tourists to visit, I visited myself. What will happen there tomorrow? What are the prospects? We will return the protected area when time passes. But we need to see what we can get there now. We need to take another look at these territories and create production associations and holdings. This holding will have several directions. For example, timber processing, honey production, horse breeding, sheep breeding, goats, there will be something else and an agricultural direction,” Lukashenko said.

He believes that already now it is necessary to allocate funds for the development of the 30-kilometer zone, because “not a single hectare of land cannot be abandoned.” The Belarusian president proposes to develop tourism and fishing there.

Another project proposed by Lukashenko is the construction of a railway to a crushed stone deposit on the border with Ukraine.

“We will be able to find 120-150 million to return to the construction of the railway. Calculate economically and socially. Because the railway is life for people. We wanted to go to the Ukrainian border, where we produced crushed stone. It must be economically justified how. It costs pennies for people to travel by rail. You won't be able to pay for this project with passenger traffic. The economy needs to work. We can export crushed stone, we can harvest and export timber, there is a lot of it. And maybe we’ll find other options,” Lukashenko said.
